Spirits guru

From local brewers to the vineyards of Italy, exotic wines and spirits land on the shelves of our local stores and favorite bars. This site will inform and educate you about what's good and why. I'll share my best cocktail recipes; please send feedback. Together we'll explore what specialties local bartenders are mixing, and mark our calendars for special events. Salut!

Keith Saunders

I honed my mixology skills at the Oak Room of the Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston. Other experience includes the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, and the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage, where I facilitated community tasting events while bartending at the Crow's Nest. I am currently working with a team of mixologists at Simon & Seafort's. To date, I have created more than 300 new cocktails. I've lived in Anchorage since 1999.

Christoff Jeffries, the Man the Myth the Legend!

Well maybe not the myth and probably semi-legend.

I've been fortunate to know Christoff Jeffries , Bar Manager at Humpy's, for almost 5 years now. He attended many of the tasting events I facilitated at the Hotel Captain Cook over the years.

Recently, Anchorage Daily News reporter, Jessica Bowman and I did a duel interview with Christoff, read Jessica's article in the Play section of today's edition or see her blog at adn.com/lushlife.

Christoff is a throwback to a by-gone era of Bartenders who adheres to true Bar Edicate.

He knows his products!

All you have to do is ask him anything about beer and he can answer with a flair that draws you in and makes the technical process sound fascinating and intriguing.

He's fluent in Scotch knowledge and has a deep appreciation of Wine.

He's passionate about his craft and relates it to his customers.

Not afraid to steer the unruly patron in the right direction, trangressions are usally forgotten by the time they belly up to the bar again.

On his off time Christoff is a man about town sampling the latest in Single Malt Whiskey's. His own personal stache reads like a Michael Jackson Scotch Collection

Balvenie 21 yr, Talisker 25, a nd Glenlivet 21 yr are but a few of his own
bottles. His favorites are any Whiskies from the Islay Region of Scotland.

He loves the smoky, peaty characteristics!

From a Bartenders perspective Christoff is true Bartenders Bartender, he can shake up a mean drink and does not rely on the newest trendy fruity drink that comes along to show off his style, but he will go to great lengths to find out info on the products his regulars might desire.

Here are a couple of Christoff's classic recipes he offered to share with us!

Purple Hooter Martini (Nice twist on a classic)

1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Chambord
1/2 oz. Sweet and Sour

Fill a martini shaker with ice and add all ingredients and shake. Strain into a martini glass and splash off with 7-up.

Stoli-Raz Cosmopolitan (Your sweety will pucker up with this one)

1 1/2 oz. Stoli Rasberry Vodka
1/4 oz. Triple Sec
1/4 oz. Roses Lime
2 oz. Cranberry

Fill a martini shaker with ice and add all ingredients and shake. Stain into a martini glass and throw in lime squeeze.

It's nice to have the recipe but it tastes better when the expert shkes it up himself.

Here's to you Christoff!

Salut!
