Spirits guru

From local brewers to the vineyards of Italy, exotic wines and spirits land on the shelves of our local stores and favorite bars. This site will inform and educate you about what's good and why. I'll share my best cocktail recipes; please send feedback. Together we'll explore what specialties local bartenders are mixing, and mark our calendars for special events. Salut!

I honed my mixology skills at the Oak Room of the Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston. Other experience includes the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, and the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage, where I facilitated community tasting events while bartending at the Crow's Nest. I am currently working with a team of mixologists at Simon & Seafort's. To date, I have created more than 300 new cocktails. I've lived in Anchorage since 1999.

Party All Night With A Late Night Boost!

Lately I've been burning the candle at both ends. As a Bartender I've always wondered where everyone gets their second wind from at 1:00am

I asked and found out!

Energy drinks have been around for sometime now. Everyone has been putting anything from Vodka to Jaegermeister to tweak them up. I haven't been able to find out any recipes locally but I've found some recipes at drinknation.com.

Hopefully you can use some when you decide to hit the scene in Anchorage.

My friend Carla assures me that Bernies Bungalow should be able to accomodate these ingredients into a wild ride for you and your posse!

Here are some late night recipes to make your night last until dawn.

The Headless Barman

1 oz. Sour Rasberry Pucker
1/2 oz Absolut Citron
3oz. Red Bull
3oz. Mountain Dew
1oz. Pineapple juice

Fill a pint glass with ice and all ingredients. Stir and add a lemon wedge and you have potent beverage that will keep you on the dance floor late into last call.

Gank

1 dash of Blue Curacao
1/2 oz. Van Gogh Vodka
1/2 oz. Gin
1/2 oz. Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
1 oz. Van Gogh Vanilla Vodka
4oz. Red Bull

Fill a pint with ice and add all ingredients and stir. Be careful this is a great but deadly combination. Only one of these and you'll be up all night.

Want something classy and in a martini glass? Take a shaker and fill it with ice and add the following ingredients and shake. Pour into a chilled martini glass and add a lemon twist. Top off with a splash of soda to give it some zest, not that it needs any zest or pep but soda makes it tingly and vibrant.

Ingredients; 1 oz. Bacardi O, 1/2 oz. Peach Schnapps and 1/2 oz. Pineapple juice 1 oz. Red Bull. This Cocktail has no name, it's one of my creations. I'll let it speak to those who try it and see if you can come up with a proper name for this inibriation in the making.

Cheers!
