Reading through the posts here, I have been shocked and saddened. Many of you are usually tough on Sarah to the point of abuse, but the comments that remain in this thread and obviously the ones that were deleted are so degrading and inappropriate because people are referring negatively to her pregnancy and unborn child.
Many have said they are mad that Todd and Sarah decided to have another baby. Would you be mad if Todd were the governor and he announced his wife was pregnant? I doubt it. Besides, people don't always plan to have babies. . . sometimes, despite precautions taken, babies are created.
I completely understand why Sarah waited as long as she could to tell us. This is an issue a lot of working women go through. For a man it's no big deal but for a woman all of a sudden her competency and loyalty to the job are questioned.
I'm sure she has a huge support group who can help with the baby, and they have these things called breast pumps that she can use to express milk when she can't be there to feed her child in person.
I waited a while before I told my bosses I am pregnant. I wanted to shout it from the rooftops because my husband and I are over the moon with joy but these issues that are addressed here kept me mum for a while. I'm fortunate because everyone's been really supportive but I certainly felt like I had to explain myself. I felt very judged by some when I said I would be back to work after our baby is born. I didn't HAVE to explain to people that my husband works from home and will be a stay-at-home dad, but over and over I found myself divulging this information right after sharing how I would be back to work. Then I get the funny looks and jokes regarding our decision to "role reverse", as it were.
Governor Palin, congratulations. When I met you in January at a teacher event, I was really struck by your honest interest in the people who wanted to meet you and take pictures with you. I've waited in line to meet celebrities in the past and usually they act like they're interested in what you're saying but really you can tell they're saying, "hurry up and go so I can get out of here." But as I stood in line I heard you asking questions and making personal connections and laughing and sharing stories. I could really see that you genuinely cared about the people there. You were willing to stay as long as it took to meet and greet everyone who waited to see you. It was really awesome.

A celebrity is simply a famous person. Actors (Pitt, Jolie, etc), famous businessmen (Trump, Gates, etc), musicians (Green Day, Madonna, etc), writers (Stephen King, Mary Higgins Clark), and even politicians (Clintons, Bushes) are celebrities.
Of course, I listed mostly "A-list" celebrities . . . there are different levels, you know. In Alaska, Palin would be on the A list, wheras in other states she would be B or C list.

That's after the start of the new school year!
Watch out...some of our "family" here are no doubt circulating a petition already to have you leave teaching since, being expectant, you cannot be expected to devote sufficient time to your students, much less remain "focused".
Then, of course, you decide to continue teaching after delivery they'll be down at APD headquarters filing complaints of child abuse.
Not that anyone would take them any more seriously than they are taken here'bouts. Still, when these folks get the gleam in their eyes and pitchforks in their hands.....
Glad to see your equal opportunity definition of "celebrity" which includes the notorious as well. I mean, Madonna, Bill, Hillary...

I'm darned if I do and I'm darned if I don't.
Not that I care a fig about what they think--I will be doing what's best for my baby, and what's best is that I get a long-term sub for my classroom when the baby comes, stay home for several weeks, and return to work while my husband cares for our baby during the day so I can keep my stable position and my health insurance for our family. I enjoy what I do and it's a good job for our family.

my neighbor's pregnant, as is a co-worker, and none of them get the sentimental circle jerk going on here. Palin is our governor -but she dang sure ain't royalty. Some of you make me want to puke -the levels you stoop to in order to brown nose.
While you are all so busy drooling over posting over the next best congrats-post, keep this in mind: who the heck cares? This won't help us get a gasline deal -unless Parnell takes over during a medical emergency. This won't help all Alaskans.
I want some substance. I'm tired of photo-ops. I want to see her shrink government -the operating budget for instance. I want to see property tax relief and fully-funded education. I want to see job growth. I want to see oil production levels go up.
While you are all fawning over this moment -and bestowing your egg-suckin-dawg comments upon our Valley queen, I want to see governance and accountability. I want to see results, substance, and good decision-making.

Seriously. Haven't we hard that line before?
The ability to debate an issue properly allows for more than taking only the most extreme positions; it really involves delving into the grey areas. Granted, drawing a line in the sand makes everything easy for the simple-minded. But, this demarcation that anyone who criticizes the Governor is against Alaska is preposturous.
You post this same line over and over. Kinda like RFN, our resident misanthrope.

if the decision to announce her pregnancy now is her way of covering up for AGIA's failure. Today was the last day for public input. It's no coincidence that all she wants the public to do is fawn over her pregnancy. What happened to the 10 a.m. meeting in her Capitol office with representatives from Exxon Mobil out of Houston? Why is honest open and transparent Palin pulling the wool over every reporters glassy eyes with Madonna like images and baby naming when the primary topic of news reports should be the the end of AGIA public input and success or lack thereof of a gasline. Talk about having no class and using her family and pregnancy to pander to the public. This goes beyond the pale Palin. Anyone who doesn't think this was a deceptive and calculating distraction on her part needs to think again.

I'm willing to bet that Andrew Halcro doesn't care how many kids the governor produces.
What Halcro seems to be concerned about is the state's economic future. And doing what it takes to produce a gasline.
Making babies is easy. Maybe that's why Palin is on #5.
