Whatever you want, buddy

From Mary Hattie
We got what you could call a nasty e-mail Thursday night. Take a look.

"So you dont like printing my anti liberal letters? Well print this. Cancel my subscription. . Rush is correct calling you the drive by media. And ADN leads the way.
Comments = You people are freaks! I will work extra hard to you out of business!"

I called the writer Friday morning to discuss his comments. I let him know that his letter about Paul Bauer's now-dead immigration enforcement proposal had been tentatively scheduled to print Friday morning but there was no room for it on the page that day. The letter was rescheduled to appear Sunday.

My response to that news might have been something like, "Sorry I was so presumptuous. I'll make sure to look at the Sunday paper."

His response? To say he already cancelled his subscription himself. We don't even have to bother printing this letter, he said. He launched more accusations about why we hadn't printed previous letters from him and he hung up on me.

Why would a guy who is fired up enough to send an e-mail complaining we wouldn't print his comments request we pull his letter off the page? Beats me.

.

I often wonder how the ADN editors deal with the "I'm not getting my way" crowd?

I also wondered about the era of electronic reading as opposed to the 'hard copy'... will ADN adjust or buck the new wave?

The inside opinion section is a good because it gives a view not normally seen or viewed.

Just curious, do you ever get a chance to tell people off, if the desire is really strong?

Whatever...

Tell me you don't get a little comic relief from this process. I can't wait to see your book, "Letters Unfiltered".

What if "Letters Unfiltered" were cast as a one or two-act play set in a news room, minimally structured. Remember the movie "12 Angry Men"? Like that. Might be really interesting if high-school people read the parts. It would be easily adaptable to TV or radio. What do you think it would take to do something like that? Bet KAKM might donate space and production expertise if somebody axed 'em real nice.
