Lucky Dragons make the crowd the music

Lucky DragonsLucky Dragons

Tony Olexa says that Alaska should brace itself for something he can safely say it has never seen before. Friday his group, Reverse Retro, which was formed to bring innovative and original music, art and film to Alaska introduces Lucky Dragons. I’m not even going to try to adequately express what Lucky Dragons does. I’ll let this YouTube video and Olexa speak.

OLEXA ON THE LUCKY DRAGONS

Would you describe Lucky Dragons?

Amazing!!! (Lucky dragons mastermind, Luke Fishbeck) is making music with the crowd through skin-to-skin contact. A lot of people have been skeptical and confused about what a performance entails because it is so new ... During the show you can be touching a tentacle and your friend can touch your arm and it changes the sound and visuals in the performance.

Everyone that comes to the show is participating in the experience…All music is a record of time, evidence of an experience.

…It's like musical choose your own adventure, except where at most shows you have to kind of re-piece together what might have been happening, Lucky Dragons give you the physical tools to engage that experience directly while it's happening. Maybe you are into the crowd dynamic or a certain noise in the sound scape, the tools in the show give you a voice to the point where the audience is the show and (Lucky Dragons) is perpetuating it.

Show dates:

-June 15 @ International Gallery of Contemporary Arts, $20 at the door, 8 p.m.

-June 20 @ Denali National Park Alaska, $10, 8 p.m.
