Otis wins AACCC Poster Dog Contest

Congratulations to Otis for winning Anchorage Animal Care and Control's Licensing Campaign Poster Dog Contest. As the top dog in the contest, Otis will be AACCC’s poster dog for the dog licensing campaign in 2010.

Runners-up were Axel and Eddie. Eddie gets his picture on the blog enough ;), so I'm withholding his picture so he doesn't get a bigger head. ;)

Here's more on Otis:

Winner: Otis, 3-year-old Jack Russell mix.
His owner wrote: My dog Otis is almost 3 years old, a Jack Russell mix from Animal Control. I adopted him when he was 10 months old. His former owner had him only for a week and then brought him in because Otis was too aggressive with her small children.

Otis and I took several obedience and agility classes, joined play groups to meet other dogs and people. Now Otis is a very dog/people friendly happy-go-lucky dog. Sometimes I take him to work with me and everyone there enjoys his company. Otis knows lots of tricks, like playing dead, spin, roll over, high five and bow and entertains them.

Otis just passed Canine Good Citizen test in September and now is working on Delta Society Pet Partner program so he can be a therapy dog and make more people happy! I would like everyone to know that rescue dogs can be happy and well behaved dogs with proper care, patience, love and exercise.

Here's more on Axel:
Runner-up: Axel, about 2.5 years old, is a retriever/husky/border collie mix.
His owner wrote: Axel is the perfect example of why shelter dogs make terrific pets. He was adopted in August 2008 from the Kenai Animal Shelter. There was no real history on him, except that he had been in the shelter at least twice.  Axel is an amazing animal. He is not destructive, he is very quiet, completely potty trained and wonderful with our 3-year-old son.

He has taken to skijoring like second nature and is happiest when playing outdoors. The above picture was taken in September 2009 at Hatcher Pass (his favorite playground.)  Axel now has a permanent home and family and he is very much loved!
