Gutierrez Getting His Game In Gear (ECHL Notes)
Erstwhile Alaska Aces winger Moises Gutierrez of Anchorage -- he played only one game (10 minutes actually), got a two-game, league-imposed suspension and was released -- is finding smoother going for ECHL Johnstown.
After failing to register a point in his first three games with the Chiefs, and going -4, he's erupted for three goals in the last two nights. He bagged his first as a Chief on Friday, then scored twice and went +3 in a 6-5 OT win over Wheeling tonight.
Also, former Aces winger Matt Robinson scored one goal and set up two others for Johnstown, and went +2. Robbie owns 3-6--9 totals in 12 games, a season after undergoing major knee surgery.
In other ECHL news, Elmira absolutely pounded host Gwinnett 11-3 tonight, with the Donati twins mauling the Gladiators. Justin Donati scored four goals, added a helper and went +4, and Tyler Donati furnished five helpers and a +3 rating. Justin (8-17--25 in 13 matches) and Tyler (6-19--25 in 13) have put up sick, sick -- did I mention sick? -- numbers.
At the moment, the Donati brothers are tied for the league points lead with Utah's Ryan Kinasewich, who had two goals and an assist so far tonight against Las Vegas, which gives him 15 goals and 25 points in 12 games.
Alas, for former Bakersfield goaltender Danny Taylor of Gwinnett, he had to eat all 11 bullets because the Gladiators' other choice was an emergency back-up goalie.
