Kotzebue at 4 p.m.: We are in the middle of a winter snow blizzard - our first this year. June Nelson Elementary School and Kotzebue Middle/High School is closed today due to blizzard-like conditions. The wind is blowing at 50-60 mph and the almost white-out conditions make it nearly impossible to travel around the village. NOAA reports areas of blowing snow with visibility one quarter mile or less at times. Snow accumulations are between 4-6 inches with total snow accumulations for two days at 6-9 inches. High temperature is 15 to 20 degrees. East winds are 30-40 mph with gusts up to 50-60 mph.
