At least it's historic...
Score 1 for Obama.
The President’s Bankrupt-America-in-Return-for-Sub-Par-Health-Care Bill passed the House by 5 votes.
Yes folks, we’ll finally get to take our seat among the nations of medical mediocrity… Oh goody.
This bill is such a tragedy, that it’s difficult to know where to begin…
Let’s start with the price tag: $1.2 trillion. Right off the bat, this bill breaks the president’s spending cap of $900 billion. Obama, though, doesn’t seem to mind (a shocker...).
That price tag does not include the $250 billion in Medicare physician payments. No, the House will vote on that bill separately (oh yes, they’re sneaky).
Judging from history, the health care bill will easily exceed the $1.2 trillion price tag. In 1965, when Medicaid was first introduced, the House Ways and Means Committee estimated that it would cost $238 million in its first year.
Nope. It cost $1billion.
When Medicare was introduced in 1965, Congress predicated that, by 1990, it would cost $12 billion. The real cost? $90 billion.
Today, Congress claims that their current health care bill will cost just over $1 trillion dollars. Plus, they say, its deficit neutral.
Ya… and I’ve got some choice timber lots for sale in Barrow...
Let’s be honest. This bill will raise our deficit far beyond the current $11.2 trillion. Congress will have to raise taxes in order to pay off the interest to our skyrocketing debt. Within a few years, we’ll be mirroring Britain’s tax structure (see: 50% tax).
That’s just the outward price tag. Internally, the bill is worse. Much worse.
Everyone will be forced to buy insurance. If you don’t buy insurance, you’ll have to pay up to 2.5% of your income -- or go to jail (Note: these penalties apply only to legal residents).
The healthcare bill also appoints a new “health choices commissioner” (Yay, another Obama czar…)
The new commissioner will define what is and what is not a “qualified” insurance plan. An insurance plan that is not “qualified,” will be terminated.
Those of you who have a money-share healthcare plan, like Christian Healthcare Ministries, or Medishare, should prepare for Uncle Sam’s solicitations. Simply put, your insurance isn’t bureaucratic enough for the government.
Now, Obama and company are trying to sell their healthcare plan by saying that you can shop around for your health insurance. That is true. What they have kept silent is that all “qualified” insurance companies will be forced to follow the same mandates. So, you’ll be free to choose any insurance company you like – as long as it looks like all the others…
It gets better. The new Caesar of All Things Health will have the authority to tell private insurers exactly how much to charge for their services. Yep, you read that correctly. The government will control your prices… Even Mao would be proud of that one.
Because of the new insurance mandates, all middle to high income Americans will see steep insurance price hikes. By some estimates, Americans will pay three times as much for health insurance.
Such, however, is the cost of government run health care – replete with 111 new bureaucracies, commissions, and boards.
And that’s just a portion of the economic side... On the medical side, we can expect longer lines, decreased technology, less choice. We can say goodbye to America’s #1 ratings in bladder, prostate, lung, and breast cancer survival. We can say farewell to our quality preventative care, and can now join nations like Great Britain, where only 63% of the women (aged 50-64) receive regular mammograms – compared to 84% in the U.S (source: NCPA).
Yes, we can boldly follow the lead of socialized nations… in medical fields where we have blazed the paths…
But at least, as our President has said, this bill is ”historic.” And, in the end, isn’t that all that really matters?
