After a banner year for entries and overall quality of costumes, the winner of the 3rd Annual Dog Blog Howllll-oween Costume Contest is Morgan the Devil. Congratulations, Linda Henning. The judges loved your costume and your picture. "Spooky," was the description.
Linda, who publishes Alaska Dog News (www.AlaskaDogNews.com), is a regular contributor to the blog. She wins a $50 gift certificate to Paw Prince, the posh pet supply store in Anchorage that sponsored the contest.
This year's contest produced 36 entries, the most ever. And for the first time ever, the top 5 entries were separated by just 5 points. Amazing, really. We had 12 judges rank all the entries on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with 5 being the highest. With 60 as the highest possible total, Morgan eked out the victory with 55 points.
Second place -- just one point back -- was Francis, Althea and Tesla in an impressive Wizard of Oz theme. Third place went to Flyer the Friendly Ghost, which one judge described as "the best by far -- original and not from a catalog. And funny."
Bozlee, the one-eyed pirate -- the overwhelming winner in the People's Choice voting -- placed fourth in the judges' voting, just three points behind the winner.
Fifth, but not least, was Skipper, the Royal Medieval Prince. Skipper's policeman costume was one of the favorites last year, and he didn't disappoint this year.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD
Bozlee
The ADN judges had their say, but when it came to the People's Choice voting, Bozlee, the One-Eyed Pirate was a runaway winner. His 19 votes knocked off last year's champ, Kane, who was dressed as Steggi the Stegosaurus and finished with 11 points.
It was hard to resist Bozlee's costume. The one-eyed pug rescue made the perfect one-eyed pirate, complete with eye patch. Nice touch.
