Some Future Seawolves Are Off To Sizzling Starts

UAA's presumed goaltender of the future is enjoying a pretty fantastic present.

Rob Gunderson of the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Brooks Bandits -- you hardcore Seawolves fans may remember that's where UAA plucked former Seawolf and current NHLer Curtis Glencross -- is a mere 7-0-0 with a 2.14 goals-against average and .942 save percentage. Damn, not only that, but the kid has kicked in a helper, too.

Brooks leads the South Division with a 7-1-0 record. The Spruce Grove Saints, home to two UAA recruits, are rocking a 7-1-0 mark to lead the North Division. Both teams have averaged 4.80 goals per game. The Saints, meanwhile, have surrendered just nine goals in eight games.

Those Saints recruits have started nicely, too. Winger Brett Cameron owns 2-7--9 totals in eight games and winger Scott Allen, who may not join the Seawolves for a couple seasons, owns 3-2--5 totals in six games.

Here's an update on other UAA recruits for future seasons.

D Quinn Sproule, Okotoks Oilers, AJHL: 3-0--3 totals in seven matches.

D Wes McLeod, Prince George Spruce Kings, BCHL: 3-5--8 totals in seven games.

C Sam Mellor, Trail Smoke Eaters, BCHL (and just 16 years old, mind you): 4-3--7 totals in eight games.

W Matt Bailey, Sioux Falls Stampede, USHL: Season starts Friday.

W Matt Friese, Alaska Avalanche, NAHL (and just 17): 1-4--5 in seven games.
