Here's Who's Left In NHL Camps (As Far As This Knucklehead Can Determine)
After much scrounging around the series of tubes and a couple of phone calls, here's who I believe is left among Alaska-connected dudes at NHL camps.
By my slightly shaky count, we started with 39 Alaska-connected guys starting in NHL camps. That count now stands at 15. (Um, scratch that and make it 14 -- the New York Islanders shipped former UAA goaltender Nathan Lawson to AHL Bridgeport today).
Here goes:
Atlanta Thrashers: Winger Joey Crabb of Anchorage, who bagged a third-period goal tonight against Nashville that turned out to be the game winner in a 5-4 victory after the Predators scored twice in the last two-plus minutes.
Calgary Flames: Winger Curtis Glencross, late of UAA, who bagged a goal on his first shift tonight against Edmonton. One assist went to 76-year-old Theo Fleury. Glencross added a shortie in the second period. Pretty sure that's four goals for him in the preseason.
Chicago Blackhawks: Defenseman Jordan Hendry, late of UAF, and playing tonight against Alexander Ovechkin and the high-flying Caps (uh, Caps 6, Hawks 2 in the third period, two G's for Alex the Great).
Detroit Red Wings: Goaltender Jordan Pearce of Anchorage.
Montreal Canadiens: Center Scott Gomez of Anchorage.
New Jersey Devils: Defenseman Tyler Eckford, late of UAF.
New York Islanders: Center Nate Thompson of Anchorage.
New York Rangers: Center Brandon Dubinsky of Anchorage; winger Aaron Voros, late of UAF.
Philadelphia Flyers: Defenseman Matt Carle of Anchorage.
St. Louis Blues: Goaltender Ty Conklin of Anchorage; former Alaska Aces winger D.J. King.
Vancouver Canucks: Forward Eric Walsky of Anchorage and UAA.
Washington Capitals: Center Jay Beagle, late of UAA.
