Wasilla seeks input on city plan

From Rindi White in Wasilla:
The city of Wasilla is seeking public input today to help develop a new city plan.

Wasilla Mayor Verne Rupright said in a press release that the city is at a crossroads, and the new plan can help guide future development.

"We have enjoyed and benefitted from the growth and development, yet are dealing with growth pains, increasing traffic congestion and new demands for public services," Rupright said. "How we plan for future growth, resolve current issues, improve quality of life and maintain our small town character will, in large part, be determined by this planning effort."

Part of the plan will focus on the downtown Wasilla commercial district, according to information from the city. Contractor USKH plans to study the business district closely and conduct future workshops focusing solely on that area in September. USKH also plans to survey city residents by telephone and mail to assess their attitudes on a range of topics. Find out more about the plan here.

The city of Wasilla is holding an open house between 3 and 5 p.m., with a community planning workshop from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the Menard Sports Center in Wasilla.
