9 a.m. Dec. 22, Anchorage, Alaska: The sun doesn't rise for more than an hour ... it's dark, and it'll stay that way for awhile.
Today is the first day of winter. I'll post some photos throughout the day to share how we get through the shortest day of the year.
Daylight is scarce on solstice, but that doesn't stop us from being out and enjoying what light there is.
10:25 a.m.: Looking at the Chugach Mountains a few minutes after sunrise from a West Anchorage neighborhood.
1:45 p.m.: The sun is headed down in this view looking south from Minnesota Drive in West Anchorage.
2 p.m.: A sled takes a family for a ride around a furniture store parking lot in Midtown Anchorage.
