ad watch

APOC is preparing to put candidates' latest campaign disclosure reports online and I’m trying to keep an ear and eye out for new advertisements. In fact, if you see or hear anything noteworthy, please pass it on.

It’ll be interesting to see if Binkley’s ad with the Anchorage mayors resonates, and just what Murkowski has planned. Later in the week, the public television match-up between Croft and Knowles should be good, since the two haven’t really locked horns much in public. (Or in private?)

In other words, will it only be the Republicans who beat each other up before the general, or will the winning Democrat have some scars too?

The action is in Fairbanks today, where a chamber of commerce forum is under way right now. It's Binkley's hometown, and afterward he plans to announce endorsements from local lawmakers including John Coghill, Jay Ramras and Jim Holm, and the North Pole and city of Fairbanks mayors. (Unlike Anchorage, Fairbanks has a separate borough and city. The borough mayor, Jim Whitaker, is a Palin fan.)

Speaking of endorsements, the Alaska Forest Association is backing Murkowski.

Forest Association ?

Good to see frank pick up the endorsement of the Forest Association. At first I thought it would help him to lock up that important wood elf, pixie, and tree nymph demographic. Then I checked out the association on line and it seems there more interested in deforestation. Poor frank can't catch a break.

Wood elves, pixies and tree nymphs...

That comment was way too funny!

Next thing you know, he'll have the endorsement of Nepotism Anonymous.

Or maybe some Frequent Fliers Program...

You're hypocritical

QuixoticNeophyte,

You criticize me for "rude" comments, and then make rude comments yourself about the Frank. You are hypocritical.

Even if you don't like all of his decisions, you still should respect him for being the Governor of Alaska.

No Possible Way

Eric Croft has NO chance of winning. None.

  August 15, 2006 - 7:56pm | quixoticneophyte

I agree

Knowles is the Democrat Party's annointed one. I'm glad Croft is running and involved (it's the definition of democracy), but Murkowski has a larger chance of winning than does Croft.

Although, without Knowles, the Republican establishment could no longer say, "I'm the only one who can beat Tony Knowles." They might actually have to run a campaign on, oh I don't know, maybe the issues!

"Democrat" Party?

Cool, Knowles has two parties supporting his candidacy? I thought only the Democratic Party was firmly on board. Neat!

  August 15, 2006 - 8:08pm | akpoliticalanimal

That would be novel

do we think that saah palin might actually take a stand on an issue when she's alone with Tony Knowles in a race? How ironic--her slogan is Take A Stand but I challenge everyone to name a 5 positions she's taken other than Murkowski's unethical (duh).

Fairbanks

I am curious since Fairbanks is also the reported home of Murk. who is the second largest city going to endorse?

I mean are they going to shy away from our current jet flying leader?

Fairbanks

Hi QB,
I think Fairbanks is now the 3rd city behind Juneau. Maybe I am mistaken. From the streets, it seems that Palin and Binkley signs are about equal in number...very few Murkowski signs. And by listening to the local am station, there seems to be more support for Palin than anyone else on the republican ticket. Binkley has some baggage regarding the dredging of the Chena River years ago for his Riverboat Discovery thing (as well as other points...supporting Tony Knowles during his last election, etc). I am interested in the Croft- Knowles race. Is it a done deal for Knowles or can Croft actually pull it off? Trying to decide where to do the most good with my vote. Thanks.

Democratic Ticket

Hi Monkey,

I believe that Croft is a decent politician, but I really believe that Knowles has the name, plus he did a great job as governor last time. I mean there wasn't anywhere near the amount of animosity towards Knowles,or even close, as there is now towards Murkowski. Next Tuesday will be very interesting. There will be polls everyday or close to it, and the mud will start to fling. Any skeletons that are in the closet, for anyone running on next Tuesday's ticket, will be revealed this last week. 6 days to go.

Croft

Eric still has a chance - anything is possible in Alaska Politics! He has gained a ton of support outside of Anchorage (including fantastic support in Fairbanks.) There recently was an informal poll done by Radio Kenai (on the Peninsula) that has Eric beating Tony by 2 points. It is unscientific, but a good representation of what Eric has experienced during his trips.

Eric has spent his limited time and limited resources working to meet as many Alaskans as possible - from Barrow to Ketchikan. Go to www.ericcroft.com to check out the Postcards page that shows pictures from his trips.
