ANCHORAGE — A 23-year-old Fairbanks man received almost 12 years in prison for robbing a bank.
Federal officials say Nicholas J. Singleton will also be placed on five years of supervised released and must pay restitution for the robbery that occurred last December at the Key Bank.
Singleton robbed the bank at gunpoint on December 18. At one point, he shoved the gun into a customer's rib cage to induce compliance. Law enforcement officers later learned the gun was loaded with hollow-point bullets.
Singleton was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Court Judge Ralph Beistline.

ANCHORAGE — An Anchorage man received five years in prison for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.
Anthony Antjuan Rankin, 26, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Ralph R. Beistline.
Prosecutors say Rankin was arrested in St. Mary's soon after arriving from Anchorage. They say he was carrying a loaded pistol inside his backpack, as well as alcohol and ammunition.
Rankin had previously been convicted of two felony offenses in Indiana.
Beistline found that carrying a loaded firearm on an airplane while illegally importing alcohol into a community created a potentially dangerous situation.

FAIRBANKS — A Fairbanks man has been sentenced to a year in prison for stealing a snowmobile from a neighborhood.
Twenty-two-year-old Ralph Luke-Holmberg was charged with felony vehicle theft but he reached an agreement with prosecutors to plead guilty Monday to misdemeanor vehicle theft.
Fairbanks police arrested Luke-Holmberg in February. He was found with a stolen snowmobile.
He had been convicted three months earlier of stealing a snowmobile and joyriding through Creamer's Field, a wildlife area on the north side of the city. The machine and a fence were damaged in that incident.

FAIRBANKS — A North Pole man who tried to rob his ex-girlfriend's father has been sentenced to nine months in jail.
Authorities say 21-year-old Michael Wallin and an accomplice entered the man's home early last year. The accomplice attacked the man with a pipe wrench but the man fought back with a knife.
Both suspects sought treatment at a hospital and initially claimed that they had been jumped in downtown Fairbanks.
Wallin later claimed that they were trying to take cash and drugs from the home. Police found no evidence of drugs.
Wallin's accomplice was sentenced to three years with two suspended.

A report of a man pointing a gun at kids on bikes at the Sears mall spurred an extensive police response and prompted school district officials to lock the doors at Fairview Elementary School this afternoon.
However, the report appeared to be unfounded, police said. They were unable to find the purported victims after being summoned at about 1:45 p.m., and it also appeared that no weapon had actually been seen, police said.
The principal locked the doors of Fairview school after seeing a flurry of police activity in the area, school district spokeswoman Heidi Embley said. It was the only school to take any action and has since reopened, she said.
