Alaska National Guard selects first female state command sergeant major

HarringtonHarringtonANCHORAGE, Alaska— The Alaska Army National Guard is composed of 1,900 citizen soldiers, of those only 320 are women.

With more than 25 years of experience in military administration, logistics and maintenance, along with a tour to Afghanistan, where she was awarded the Bronze Star, Harrington was selected to be the first female state command sergeant major for the Alaska Army National Guard, effective June 1.

Scanlon is Blood Bank of Alaska's new CEO

Blood Bank of Alaska welcomes Robert “Bob” Scanlon as the organization’s new chief executive officer.

“The Board of Directors went through a rigorous selection process and emphasized the needs of Blood Bank of Alaska moving forward and dealing with our new building, which was a major part of the selection process. The new building will serve the growing medical needs of the state,” said Tim Benintendi, vice chair of Blood Bank of Alaska's board of directors.

Blood Bank of Alaska recently purchased property and unveiled the designs for their new facility.

Alaskan technician named National Child Passenger Safety Technician of the Year

The National Child Passenger Safety Board has announced that Mandi Seethaler of the Alaska Injury Prevention Center was recognized as the 2012 Child Passenger Safety Technician of the Year. AIPC hosts the busiest fitting station in Alaska, and Seethaler has personally checked more than 300 child passenger safety seats in her two years as a certified technician.

CPA recognized for public service contributions

The Alaska Society of Certified Public Accountants has announced that Sandra R. Wilson, CPA, was named its 2012 Public Service Award winner. Wilson received the award at the Alaska Society of CPAs annual awards banquet held last month at Land's End Resort in Homer.

Wilson is a long time Alaskan with many years of service to community and professional organizations. She is a partner with Wilson & Wilson, CPAs, in Fairbanks.

She is currently the chairman of the CPA Examination Review Board.

AES announces fabrication staff promotions

Pat Coullahan receives SAME’s Wheeler Medal

Nancy Spink named chief risk officer for UA

University of Alaska President Pat Gamble has announced that Nancy Spink has been selected as the new Chief Risk Officer and will begin her assignment June 20, 2012.

Spink joins UA from the University of Idaho where she was the Risk Management Officer. She will lead UA’s efforts to create and maintain a university-wide risk management program that utilizes disciplines such as loss prevention, risk financing, claims management and risk information systems.
