I have prayed about every day for the past week and have asked God to help John McCain be elected president. The future of our country is at stake.
McCain is behind in the polls and will need God's help if he is to win.
I do not mean to posture as pious and religious. Because I'm not. I am just an insignificant and very imperfect speck in the scheme of things. And I don't presume to know the will of God. But I humbly appeal to God for help. Our backs are against the wall. We need help.
I ask others to pray earnestly also.
Also, read just a little bit of the bible today. I think that helps.
Lately I have been reading in First Samuel starting with Chapter 8.
In World War 2, the Germans launched a massive surprise offensive before dawn on December 16, 1944. It became known as the "Battle of the Bulge". Their Panzer tanks punched through the thin American lines and into Belgium. Their ultimate goal was to seize the important Belgium supply port of Antwerp and to split the allied armies.
But first they had to take the town of Bastogne at an important set of crossroads. The Germans attacked on Dec. 18 and completed the encirclement on Dec 20. The American defenders of Bastogne were outnumbered and very low on supplies and ammunition. They could not be supplied by the air because of the awful winter weather.
The situation was bleak and desperate. On Dec. 22, The Germans sent in a message telling the Americans to surrender to avoid annihilation.
Brig. Gen Anthony McAuliffe sent back his famous reply to the Germans: "Nuts". In other words the Americans would fight on to the bitter end.
That's what we should say to the powerful left wing forces that besiege us. Groups like MoveOn.org are equipped with enormous financial firepower.
On Dec. 23, 1944 the skies over Bastogne miraculously cleared in the nick of time to allow desperately needed supplies to be dropped in. An element of Patton's Army made contact with Bastogne on the day after Christmas. Bastogne was saved and the Germans were ultimately pushed back.
I'm not suggesting, of course, that the left wingers in this country have the same goals as the German Army in 1944. But Bastogne proves that Americans have grit when our backs are against the wall.
We don't have to surrender to Marxist ideals. We don't have to abandon our current success in Iraq. We don't have to add more handcuffs to the American economy with the Employment Non-Discrimination Act or the Employee Free Choice Act.
