Powerful politicos, '07

Did you ever imagine a day would come when "the feds" come to your residence, FBI agents and IRS agents--people, examine your plumbing fixtures, open your underwear drawers and examine your treasures, take photos and stay for days only to leave with bagfuls of your personal belongings?

What kind of legacy is this, and what's next?

Legal rights outweigh political obligations

everytime. Interested citizens have an obligation to presume someone innocent 'til PROVEN guilty. Just because you so-called journalists/editors working for this paper want some remarks - which you will then turnaround into something else doesn't mean Sen. Stevens should give up his rights. If he talks while the investigation proceeds, the Justice Department can accuse him of trying to influence it. If he doesn't say anything the ADN will try to accuse him of hiding something. If it was me, I'd be more interested in staying in good w/the Justice Dept. than this 4-page daily rag.

Power

Which corrupt power brokers will take over when the rule of Ted, Frank and Don ends?

Ted Stevens should speak up per ADN opinion on retrofitting his

Just in case you haven't noticed Mr. and Mrs. ADN, Senator Stevens just spoke out loudly. He just got us another 189 million for defense.

Let's see, there must be something wrong with how he did it. Yeh, he earmarked it....for Alaska, you know for the people who work for a living who pay your declining subscriptions for your one-sided newspaper.

its TIME

its time to GO uncle teddy, you living embarrassment...and take your boy with you..like father like son...

Its time to quit whining!

Lost sheep that make their way to Alaska, and then make comments like Ted Stevens is an embarrasment, need to take their PFD and move away. Ted Stevens has worked harder and has provided more for this state than anyone else can ever do. Think we have anyone qualified to replace him? I'm sure they couldn't afford the cut in pay. And yet the ADN believers will complain about him recieving a free fishing trip. He deserves a whole lot more than that, and at a minimum, RESPECT!

I DON'T BLAME THE SENATOR

HE IS ONLY A PRODUCT OF HIS ENVIRONMENT.

THAT ENVIRONMENT IS THE US SENATE, US GOVERNMENT.

CORRUPTION BREEDS CORRUPTION.

OUR GOVERNMENT IS A CESSPOOL OF CORRUPTION.

It's time to hammer down on corruption

A bridge to nowhere and now charges that one of our exalted Senators has participated in a scheme to get remodeling of his home paid for his votes. Good Lord where has our statesmen in this country gone? It is time to hammer down on these folks. Give the man his day in court to clear his name, but in the interim, I would hope that he step down from any responsible position in the appropriations venue of this government. Until proven innocent, a cloud of suspicion means Senator Stevens should recuse himself from any further voting. Better yet, why not resign his position and let the chips fall where they may?

It's A Wonderful Life Senator Stevens

I still ask the question? If Senator Stevens had never been born and lived, what would Alaska look like today?

  6     September 18, 2007 - 8:02am | borawinds

Everybody Settle Down

Big deal if Ted's buddy Bill did some remodel work for him, they're friends! I seriously doubt the work was done for political kickbacks.

Ship is sinking,,,,

Ted will just complain about the press. Funny is he can't blame the greenies on his problem which has been his style forever...blame someone else. TEd's been playing these money raising games forever as has Don Young. But we caught them.....fair and square. They should both resign so democracy in Alaska can get back on track. Both will complain about the press, but I jusy adore this quote.. " A politician complaining about the press is like a captain complaining about the ocean"

Dear Senator Stevens

Over the past 34 years I've lived in Alaska, I've written to you many times, interviewed you for radio, had lunch with you, swapped fish stories, argued about our fisheries and praised you for good work. Last year, before the GOP scandals and your family's role in them started coming out, I advised you to step down soon, because you appeared to have no grasp of technology issues over which you had stewardship in the US Senate. Nothing in these scandals has changed my mind since. The sooner you announce your upcoming retirement, the better for all concerned.

Speak Up

Dear Senator Stevens,

Speak up only to tell us you are resigning from the Senate.

  2     September 18, 2007 - 5:09am | HLBeckPE

Stevens and Son must GO

Alaska, a state not noted for the best and brightest serving in public office, can do better than Ben and Ted Stevens. Much better.

If Alaskans want to keep a Republican handle on things, surely there is some qualified GOPer, not presently under indictment or in jail, living there now. If not, Alaska can import one.. from China.

The Stevens family - overstaying the welcome. Past time to go.

generous benefit of doubt...?

You say that Stevens deserves a "generaous benefit of doubt" and I think everyone deserve a generous benefit of doubt and we should also avoid casting aspersions...but ultimately we deserve to get as we give...and Stevens deserves a stern measure of accountability.
