UAA's students are about to enter the intensity of finals week beginning Dec. 10-15. So this week is the last burst of activity before the great hunkering down.

A couple of tips:
Arrive early (you may stand in line), and bring cash or your checkbook; no credit cards accepted. This is truly a place to find unique work that makes awesome gifts for the holidays, or even for yourself!

Park near the Professional Studies Building on the west side of campus near Lake Otis just south of Lake Otis Elementary and walk into campus from there. Remember, parking is always free on the UAA campus on Fridays.

WORTH MONITORING:

UAA Master Plan 2012 UAA is updating its master plan to accommodate growth. The plan covers changes within the next 10 years, the next 20 years, and 30 years and out. Two more community meetings are scheduled in December. Planners will be at the Tudor Community Council Dec. 6 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the First Church of God, 4317 Macinnes Street.

The next meeting is with the Airport Heights Community Council on Dec. 20, 7-8:30 p.m. at Airport Heights Elementary School, 1510 Alder Street.

The university is hosting a public blog to accept feedback. On the blog, find links to older master plans, an historical timeline for the university that includes some historical photos, and a news section that will keep you apprised of developments. A Feedback section is where moderated comments about the plan will be posted. Also welcome are questions, values, and opportunities that the UAA community and neighbors perceive about the area.

One tip on using the blog: Open your browser window as wide as you can. We have discovered a hidden layer on the right hand side of the blog that can block the links to the historical master plans. If you open your browser window wide by pulling the lower right hand corner of the blog further to the right, you eliminate the issue.

Right now, the new master plan is being written. Planners in October held 25 listening sessions with staff, faculty and students to hear concerns, opportunities and problems that a master plan could accommodate. Now planners are analyzing the information and will produce a plan early next year. It will go to the university regents in spring for approval. Feedback in put in the form of questions, values, opportunities are all welcome on the blog.

Just like the Spam shots from Mr. Whitekeys' Fly-By-Night days, we are inviting UAA alumni to take Spirit with them to exotic locations, take a picture, and post it to our 'Traveling Spirit" Facebook page.
