Hundreds gathered at Anchorage City Church on December 4, 2012, for a memorial service for Jim Crockett who died of pneumonia on November 29. Crockett was executive director of Bean's Cafe for 11 years. Bean's Cafe provides meals and daytime shelter to people who are homeless or in need. During the service, friends, family and colleagues spoke of Crockett's ability to enlist the help of others while deflecting credit for his accomplishments. Leslie Ellis, who chairs the board that oversees Bean's, said that if Crockett were at the church Tuesday, "He would say 'What is going on at Bean's Cafe while you all are here at lunch time?'" Ellis added, "With Jim, everybody mattered and everybody needed to be treated with dignity and respect."
Bean's Cafe has posted a remembrance and a collection of photos of Crockett on its website.
