Eddie: He has a great time if I insist he go for a winter walk, but it's hard to get him to cooperate when it comes time to putting on the booties and coat.

Are there any circumstances where your dog would prefer to skip a walk? Maybe it's especially cold, raining or snowing. And if they do, do you insist that they go for a walk anyway?

I ask because of all the dogs I've owned in my life, only one has hidden when it comes to winter walks: Eddie. I suspect it's because I require him to wear booties and a coat when the temperature hits the 20s and there's snow on the ground. Yorkies are single-coated dogs, and if he doesn't wear a coat and booties, he shivers and is ready to end the walk before I am.

Eddie has done this every winter pretty much all his life. Until this year, I always insisted that he go. And once the clothes are on, he does fine and enjoys the walk.

But I've tired of fighting him this year so far, so I've let him skip many walks. Oh, he goes out in the backyard several times a day to do his business, and he gets plenty of opportunities to stimulate his brain and play in the house.

I'm just wondering if other dogs do that in the wintertime and what others do to coax them out. Any suggestions?
