Las Vegas captain Mike Madill, who received a match penalty for his hit on Alaska Aces rookie Tim Hall in Monday night's 3-2 Aces exhibition victory has been suspended for one game by the ECHL and will sit out tonight's preseason series finale.

Just so you know -- Madill's hit was out of character for him. That's not his MO. In five full ECHL seasons, he has never collected more than 60 penalty minutes, and The Blog's impression of him over the years is he is an earnest, clean player.

Hall is listed as day-to-day by the Aces -- he took the hit to the head. The Aces play this stuff -- anything involving the head -- pretty close to the vest, as do most pro teams, but it feels like they are mostly being cautious with Hall, which makes sense. He won't be in the lineup tonight, we imagine, because he didn't skate today (or if he did, The Blog missed him). Anyhow, that's what's up.

Also, Aces center Nate Thompson, the NHLer from Anchorage, has officially signed an ECHL contract with the club. He'll be in the lineup tonight.

In other ECHL news, Utah signed former Aces defenseman Mark Isherwood. He joins former Aces Nick Tuzzolino and Kory Falite on the Grizzlies, who will be here Oct. 19-20 for the Aces' home-opening series. Also, former Aces goaltender Adam Courchaine officially signed with Greenville.
