Dog Blog

The Dog Blog is a community of ordinary dog lovers who have come together to discuss our extraordinary dogs. Each Monday, a new topic is introduced. If you've got an opinion, share it. If not, look for the current "anything goes" topic and introduce a discussion of your own. On Fridays, weigh in about your training questions and successes.

Friday training talk: Anything new to report?

Failed attempt at a group pictureFailed attempt at a group picture

Use this space to discuss training issues -- brag about successes, lament setbacks or bounce a question off the group.

I staged an impromptu photo session today to try to get a new promo picture for the blog. I discovered it's not an easy trick when you don't have any help.

I decided to try to limit their mobility by putting Jillie and Eddie on the teeter in the yard and having Lucy sit between them. I set the camera on a tripod and the 8-second timer setting and ran around to pose with them.

It was then I discovered I had no way to encourage them to look at the camera. I tried holding treats out over the teeter toward the camera, but that was a miserable failure. All they did was look at my hands, and I looked silly in the picture holding my hands up.

I then tried sitting on the camera side of the teeter so the dogs would at least look at me. I had slightly better luck there. At least all our faces were visible, but still no way to get them to look at the camera.

Next time, I think I'll get an assistant to take the picture!

For laughs sake, here are a few of the outtakes and the winning pic.
