Former Alaska Aces defenseman Derick Martin, one of the real good guys, has found a new home -- the veteran has signed with the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears.
Martin, who played parts of three seasons with the Aces before he was traded, spent last season with ECHL Utah and the one before that with ECHL Victoria (now defunct).
In Martin, the expansion Solar Bears get a shut-down defenseman, strong leader and a total pro.
In other news of a former Ace, forward Brock McBride, who spent his rookie season with the club, has signed with Olympic Ljubljana, a Slovenian club that plays in Austria's league -- he spent some time there last season, when he also played in Belfast. Some familiar names to ECHL fans on McBride's club -- former Aces center Alexandre Imbeault, former Stockton sniper Chris D'Alvise and former Idaho goaltender Jerry Kuhn, just to name three.
UPDATE: Former Aces defenseman Craig Gaudet, who played 19 games for the club as a rookie in 2010-11, when he also played for Ontario -- if memory serves, Gaudet missed time here with a broken foot -- has signed with ECHL Idaho.
