I'll start with a brag. Eddie's going to be in the nosework demo at the state fair on Sunday, Aug. 26. I'm quite excited about it. From the day I started training dogs 8 years ago, I always thought it would be cool to have one participate in the fair's Dog Day.

Those demo dogs always impress me. They are not only adept at the sport they're doing, they're adept at performing before a crowd -- in an arena surrounded by the smell of fair food. They are true ambassadors for their sports -- and their breed.
