Boney CourthouseANCHORAGE, Alaska – June 28, 2012
Cornerstone General Contractors recently commenced major renovations to the Boney Courthouse in downtown Anchorage following a successful Pre-construction Services process. Working on behalf of the Alaska Court System, and in cooperation with architecture firm Kumin Associates, Cornerstone will complete Phase 2 of a three phase partial remodel of the existing courthouse through highly sensitive selective demolition. The project includes substantial renovations to several floors of the facility including the following:
* Basement Level: holding cells, control area, storage, training, and related spaces as well as the addition of a 3,500-pound, 2-story prisoner elevator.
* First Floor: Lobby Law Library, Domestic Violence, Traffic Division, Courtroom 15 Waiting, Courtroom 10.
* Mezzanine: library administrative, jury and reading balcony.
* Second floor: entire floor including public lobby, restrooms, offices, District Court operations and courtrooms.
* Fourth Floor: public lobby, restrooms, offices, and courtrooms for the Court of Appeals and District Court, as well as an addition of exterior windows on a large portion of the south and east exterior wall elevations including structural steel supports for those windows.
* Fifth Floor: Superior courtroom emergency lighting, door replacement and refinishing, restroom refurbishment, and ADA accessible staff toilet.
* Facility-wide: rekeying and miscellaneous door hardware replacement as required.
Lesli Swanson, LEED AP, a 2012 National Association of Women in Construction award winner, will lead the Cornerstone team, which includes Craig Moseley as superintendent and Michael Cohen as quality control manager. Swanson’s earlier successes include assignments at the McLaughlin Youth Center and Anchorage Radiation and Therapy Center at Alaska Regional Hospital.
Moseley has completed precision renovations for the Federal Aviation Administration, Alaska Native Medical Center and Providence Alaska Medical Center. Cohen, a graduate of the UAA Construction Management program, is certified in USACE Contractor Quality Management with recent project experience at UAA and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
