A couple of years ago the local Catholic newspaper ran a two-page paid ad by some fuzzily-named group that accused victims of child-molesting priests of being anti-Catholics who hated the church. The group listed, if memory serves, no mailing address, no website and no phone number.
That’s not the first time people have been accused of “attacking” the church. I have heard pro-choicers and pro-choice groups like Planned Parenthood characterized as “virulently” anti-Catholic.
Thursday’s newspaper reports Catholic leaders are claiming Pres. Obama’s mandate that health insurers include contraception coverage violates the religious freedom of Catholics.
Catholics have also complained about forcing Catholic social service organizations to refrain from discriminating against homosexual couples in adoption cases.
Recently, Anchorage Archbishop Roger Schwietz opposed a proposition extending freedom from discrimination to homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals and people who change their sexes.
These incidents raise some questions:
Was Obama’s mandate a sure sign of his “virulent” hatred for the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics?
Is voting for Prop. 5 in Anchorage proof of one’s “virulent” hatred for the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics?
Is getting an abortion or using a condom proof of “virulent” hatred for the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics?
Is disagreeing with Catholic teaching on abortion and contraception proof of "virulent" hatred of the Catholic Church, Vatican City, and all Catholics?
Is allowing women to get an abortion or to use a condom proof of “virulent” hatred for the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics?
The mainstream media reported a number of cases of priests’ molesting children but did not write a single story about the dozens of priests who have not molesting children. Does that prove the media’s “virulent” hatred for the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics?
Should people molested as children by Catholic priests stop obsessing about events that took place 30, 40, 50 years ago and instead let bygones be bygones, get on with their lives and start looking forward instead of looking backwards at history?
Is claiming a priest molested you as a kid a sure sign that you hate the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics?
If you don’t believe a Catholic official who says all Catholic priest molestation of children is accidental while Protestants, Mormons, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and atheists deliberately molest children, does your skepticism prove your "virulent" hatred of the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics?
Is not accusing people of other religions of molesting them proof of the victims’ “virulent” hatred of the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics?
Is it hypocritical to accuse a Catholic priest of molesting you while not accusing Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Jews, Protestants, Mormons, and atheists of molesting you as well?
Does the fact that non-Catholics also molest children entitle Catholic priests to molest children?
If you say Catholic priests are not so entitled, does that prove your “virulent” hatred for the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics?
If the Vatican conducts 14 “official” investigations that conclude the accusations were false, should people be required to accept those findings and drop their charges against the priests?
If such Vatican investigations find the child molestation was accidental because the priests could have mistaken the 8-year-olds for 25-year-olds, should the alleged victims be forced to drop their charges?
Does claiming a priest molested you prove you want to drive Vatican City into the sea and kill all Catholics?
If you don’t believe a priest who claims he had to molest you to defend himself, does that prove you want to obliterate all Catholics and Vatican City from the face of the earth?
The Catholic Church in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s suffered a holocaust that killed an estimated 300,000 Catholics in El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua and thousands more in South American countries like Chile , Argentina , Peru and Brazil . Is challenging such estimates of murder proof of “virulent” anti-Catholicism?
Does the Holocaust of Catholics entitle Vatican City to drive English people from their ancestral homes to make way for an exclusively Catholic country run by the pope and curtailing human rights of Protestants within that country?
Are Catholics entitled to England because they were there before the Protestants if Catholics claim God gave England to them?
Should the US send that new Catholic country $3 billion a year to help it defend itself from English terrorists?
Is opposition to sending that $3 billion a year proof of “virulent” hatred of the Catholic Church, the Vatican and all Catholics? Does it prove you
want to drive Catholicism from the face of the earth?
Anyone care to answer these questions?
If you don’t does that prove you hate the Catholic Church, Vatican City and all Catholics and you want to wipe all Catholics from the face of the earth?
