From Casey Grove in Anchorage--

According to Alaska State Troopers, a Kalskag man shot holes in his own vehicle after punching his wife early Tuesday morning in the Southwest Alaska village.

Michael Hetherington, 26, apparently told the troopers he and the woman were drunk at a party and that he punched her "to knock her out so that she would stop behaving in a manner of which he disapproved," troopers said in a short statement.

Hetherington allegedly told troopers that when drove the woman home from the party, he still needed to "blow off some steam," so he shot his SUV about 50 times, troopers said.

He was arrested on assault and weapons misconduct charges.

Text: On 6-5-12 at 0625 hours, Bethel Troopers received a call from a Kalskag woman who reported that her husband had just beaten her.

Aniak Troopers responded, arriving in Kalskag at approximately 0930 hours. Investigation led to the arrest of 26 year old Michael Hetherington, who admitted that while he and his female relative were intoxicated at a party, he punched her in the head three times, trying to knock her out so that she would stop behaving in a manner of which he disapproved.

He then drove her home. But he still needed to "blow off steam" so he got out his .45 cal handgun and shot about fifty rounds into the windows, tires, engine, and body of his SUV. Hetherington's gun was seized and he was transported without further incident to Bethel for remand to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Complex.
