Lissa McKinneyIs Anchorage the worst-dressed city in the nation? I think it's safe to say most of us are not losing sleep over this, but clearly the poll in Travel and Leisure Magazine and the Associated Press story that explores the topic has caught some attention here. On Friday, I wandered through a few venues of the First Friday Art Walk downtown, looking to collect just a small sample of what Anchorage residents look like when they're stepping out for the evening. Virtually everyone I mentioned the story to was aware of it and had an opinion. From the ranking, one might expect to see a disheveled lot shuffling their mud boots from venue to venue, forever cowering from the icy wind. The truth was much less stereotypical. Of course, no group of portraits could accurately represent the a city of close to 300,000. However, on a beautiful summer night, I think it's safe to say we clean up just fine. When it's cold, perhaps we're bundled just right to insulate us from the air and the pretentions of some on the Outside.
