I've been in an especially sad mood today. Our little-dog group lost a member of our pack. Lucy, who has gone to just about every twice-weekly meetup we've had for the past two years, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge this morning.

Lucy was shy and seldom mixed it up with the more energetic dogs in our pack, but she loved the meetups and commanded the respect of all the other dogs. While the others often egg each other on and play fight, they allowed Lucy the freedom to walk among them without harassing her. I have no doubt Lucy was an expert at setting her boundaries in a way we humans often don't even see.

R.I.P., Lucy. We'll all miss you, Lucy.
