Fairbanks Ice Dogs Are Set To Defend Their NAHL Championship

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs tonight finished blowing through two rounds of divisional playoffs to win the North American Hockey League's West Division and become the first of five teams that will qualify for the league's Robertson Cup, currently in possession of said Ice Dogs.

Fairbanks won 3-1 at Wenatchee to eliminate the Wild in the minimum three games, just as they dispatched the Kenai River Brown Bears in three games in the first round.

Alex Fons, bound for Minnesota-Duluth, stopped 24 shots to improve to 5-0 in the postseason. He owns a microscopic playoff goals-against average (0.79), a fat save percentage (.965) and two shutouts.

The Ice Dogs received goals from Denver-bound Gabe Levin and UAF-bound Alec Hajdukovich, and the game-winning strike, short-handed no less, from Garret Clemente, who is turning into something of a postseason monster. Due had 9-16--25 totals and one game-winning goal in 53 regular-season games, but owns 3-3--6 totals and two game winners in six playoff games.

The Robertson Cup, which features the league's five division winners from the playoffs, is May 3-8 in Frisco, Texas.
