AFC

The AFC brought it's Valley schedule to a close tonight, April 21st, promising to return in the fall. The unheralded card surprised with highly competitive bouts and a few new faces who moved to make themselves known on the Alaska fight scene.

Worth noting, the night featured several very evenly contested fights, the result of some very good matchmaking on the part of the AFC. Special props also go to referee Pino for an night of excellent calls and decisions while in the cage.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT
Rod 'Short Notice' Pucak def. Dennis 'The Tyrant' Bryant
Rd. 2, KO (punches)

The Fight of the Night. Bryant took control quickly, getting Pucak down and securing back control. For the next four minutes Bryant dominated, holding Pucak's back while he lightly peppered him with shots and mainly worked for the rear naked choke. The savvy veteran Pucak stayed calm and fought of Bryant's hands, though, waiting for his moment. With twenty seconds left in the round Pucak found a bit of space and exploded out, ending up in Bryant's guard. Frantically making up for lost time, Pucak stood up and pummeled his opponent with leathery missiles of pain. It was all Bryant could do to make it to the end of the round. Back on their feet to start the second round Bryant looked like he was still feeling the effects of the late round abuse. Pucak quickly cracked him with a left hook that sent Bryant reeling. Smelling blood in the water, Pucak swarmed with punches and didn't stop until the ref pulled him off.

"I felt I had to pay him back for the first round," said Pucak, who has made a habit of dramatic come-from-behind victories.

WELTERWEIGHT
Roy 'Pretty Boy Boykin def. Joe Canfiels
Rd. 1, Submission (armbar)

After an exchange on the feet the match went to the mat. Boykin looked to be dominating as he isolated an arm and swung for the armbar from mount, but Canfiels popped his head out from Boykin's legs and moved to guard. Boykin maintained his control of Canfiels' limb, however, and locked up a nifty strait armbar by pulling in with his hands on the Canfiels' elbow rather than popping his hips. Submission of the Night, no question.

MIDDLEWEIGHT
Tommy 'The Pot Bellied Assassin' Ide def. Mason Richards
Rd. 2, TKO (ref stoppage, strikes)

A wild back-and-forth battle, Ide and Richards traded dominant position for the first round, each taking turns hacking away from back control. Ide also mixed in a few guillotine attempts for good measure, but the fight made it to the bell. In the second round Richards attempted a few fancy kicks, sticking a darting side kick into his opponent's mug. However, Ide eventually closed the distance and slammed the fight to the ground, regaining back control. Richard's will was sapped, and he could do little more than cover up as Ide buffeted his shoulders, arms, and face with punches and hammerfists until the ref stepped in.

LIGHTWEIGHT
Levi Miller def. Jay 'Boogyman' Burgess
Rd. 1, Submission (rear naked choke)

Miller controlled the fight from the outset, getting an advantageous position on the ground quickly, then moving to back control and, after a struggle, sinking the classic choke.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT
Joe 'Jack Pot' Potter def. Josh Tyrell
Rd. 1, TKO (strikes)

Potter declared his arrival with authority, bum-rushing the veteran Tyrell like a bat out of Hell and landing punches with abandon. Tyrell clinched for survival and the fight went to the floor, but it wasn't long before both fighters were back on their feet. Potter, ostensibly a wrestler, continued his break-neck assault, knocking Tyrell down and finishing him with stand'n'pound shots, one of which might have broken his hand. The ancient gods of violence looked down from their golden thrones...and smiled.

WOMEN'S MIDDLEWEIGHT
Lea Kapunia def. Rebekah Turner
Rd. 1, TKO (ref stoppage, strikes)

Kapunia enforced her will, pushing Turner back with punches until cracking her with a right hand right to the nose. Turner rose her hands to her face as if she was injured or lost a contact, but the referee saw no reason to stop the action. Kapunia moved in with more punches and Turner turned her back, not defending herself, leaving the referee no choice but to step in. Word has it that Kapunia possibly broke Turner's nose with the inciting blow.

MIDDLEWEIGHT
Hipa 'The Samoan Redneck' Fouvale def. Joe Bay
Rd. 1, KO (punch)

The fastest bout and KO of the night. Fouvale charged hard in his usual style, finding Bay's chin with an uppercut within ten short seconds. Bay dropped like a sack of potatoes, and Fouvale finished him off with some strikes from standing.

MIDDLEWEIGHT
Jared 'J-Rock' Tuck def. Brian 'Old Man Strength' Ruth
Rd. 3, TKO (strikes)

A great fight to start the evening. Tuck battered the 42 year old Ruth with leg and body kicks for two and a half rounds, causing cringe-inducing purple blotches to show up on Ruth's leg. He then moved in for the kill in the last stanza, swarming with strikes and earning the stoppage.
