Community Bulletins

The Alaska Bulletin Board is a place for announcements and items of interest to the community that reach the Daily News but that may or may not become news stories prepared by our journalists. The content usually originates with press releases from government agencies or non-profit organizations. The Bulletin Board is not intended to be a comprehensive calendar or a news report, but rather useful information our editors consider to be of sufficiently broad and immediate interest to publish here.

DEC: Walgreen Co. recalls chocolate-covered raisins

From the Alaska Department of Evironmental Conservation:

Walgreen Co. Recalls Chocolate-Covered Raisins Due To Packaging Error and Undeclared Allergens
(JUNEAU, AK) – Walgreen Co. has issued a recall for certain lots of 13-oz Walgreens Chocolate-Covered Raisins because they may contain another product, Walgreens Bridge Mix. The recall was initiated after the Walgreen Co. received a consumer complaint of an allergic reaction and discovered some chocolate-covered raisin packages inadvertently contained Walgreens Bridge Mix and did not declare the presence of peanut, almond and soy ingredients. People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts, almonds or soy products run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these ingredients.

The affected product can be identified as a blue and white plastic bag with chocolate-covered raisins pictured on the front and the following identifying information on the back label: Best by date of "Oct 42012A1", UPC number 04902245661 and item number 280217.

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation has confirmed the product was distributed in Alaska; however, no illnesses or reaction have been reported in the state.

Consumers with peanut, almond or soy allergies who may have consumed this product or may be exhibiting symptoms of an allergic reaction should contact a health care provider immediately. Symptoms may include itching, hives, wheezing, vomiting, anaphylaxis and digestive problems, such as bloating, gas or diarrhea.

Consumers with questions about the recall, including refund information, should contact Walgreens Co. at 847-914-500 and 847-315-2755. Media should call Jim Cohn at 847-315-2950.
