Dear Alaskans:

Be honest. At this point, aren’t you starting to take it a little personally if you’re NOT being featured on some hard-driving, edge-of-the-earth reality show?

In the ongoing effort to fill seemingly every hour of cable TV with Alaskans doing Alaskany things, two new series are expected to debut this winter.

Entertainment Weekly has a teaser clip of “Bering Sea Gold,” a new Discovery series that premieres 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27. It looks to be “Deadliest Catch” meets “Gold Rush Alaska.”

The eight-episode arc “follows a set of eccentric characters who take to the frigid open water in custom-built (and, often, barely seaworthy) rigs to dive for gold,” according to EW.

The other show announced this week is “Hook, Line and Sisters,” which airs 10 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 29 on TLC.

HOOK, LINE, & SISTERS PREMIERES DECEMBER 29th
(Los Angeles, CA) – Some families open a bakery shop, while others hit the seas for deep-water fishing. TLC’s new series HOOK, LINE, & SISTERS, premiering December 29th at 10PM (ET/PT), follows the unusual lives of the Andersons, a family of fishermen who have only three months to brave the Alaskan wilds for a pay day. Seven episodes have been ordered with the series finale airing February 2nd.
HOOK, LINE, & SISTERS is an inside look into a little explored territory – the wild, unpredictable and competitive world of deep-sea commercial fishing. Patriarch Dean Anderson is a grizzled sea dog known for his aggressive fishing as much as his salmon hauls. As captain of the Memry Anne, he squares off against rival fisherman, hungry sharks and his own hardworking family. His wife, Susan, spends as much time refereeing familial feuds as she does managing the family’s finances.
At the center of the action are Dean’s daughters, 26-year-old Sierra and 21-year-old Memry. Sierra has her father’s sea-loving spirit and strives to please him while fashionista Memry has a more tumultuous relationship with dear dad. Both sisters face challenges as female fishers in a male-dominated industry.
