Dog Blog

The Dog Blog is a community of ordinary dog lovers who have come together to discuss our extraordinary dogs. Each Monday, a new topic is introduced. If you've got an opinion, share it. If not, look for the current "anything goes" topic and introduce a discussion of your own. On Fridays, weigh in about your training questions and successes.

Get a haircut Thursday and support homeless animals

Dogblog note: I'm reposting this press release from Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center as a reminder for Thursday's event:

Free Haircuts to Break Record for a Great Cause!

National Fundraiser comes to Anchorage to Support Homeless Animals

Need a haircut? Want to help set a new world record? Call for an appointment TODAY! Patrick Lomantini, of Lomantini The Salon, will be coming to Anchorage on Thursday, Sept. 8th, as part of his 50 Haircuts in 50 States in 50 Days Tour. Local salon Inspirations, at 700 W. Northern Lights Blvd., will be hosting Mr. Lomantini, who will be doing the haircuts to break a new world record and
raise funds for local animal shelters across the United States. All haircuts will be done for free, with a donation requested for the Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center ($20 recommended donation, but any amount will be accepted).

Mr. Lomantini began his tour on Aug. 1, 2011, in Augusta, Maine, and hopes to complete the record on Sept. 19, in his hometown of Wichita, Kan. He will arrive in Anchorage after departing Hawaii on Sept. 7, and after 50 haircuts here, will continue on to Washington. In total, he hopes to reach the goal of 1,500 haircuts to set this new world record and raise thousands of dollars in donations for U.S. animal shelters.

Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center (AACCC) is the only open door animal shelter in the Municipality of Anchorage. More information on AACCC can be found at www.muni.org/animal. Appointments are currently being scheduled between 8:00am-8:00pm. People interested in participating should call Inspirations at 561-9499.
