Prizes at the Seattle International Film Festival were announced on Sunday and "On the Ice," by Andrew Okpeaha MacLean, set in Barrow, picked up another award - the International Federation of Film Critics' prize for the Best New American Film.
The Seattle event is one of three such festivals in the U.S. to host a FIPRESCI jury. This jury included critics from America, France and Mexico. Their statement called "On the Ice," "...a universal, near-Biblical tragedy set in a little known culture recreated with compelling detail. A story told with outstanding naturalistic performances with a confident, compelling narrative.”
