Dog Blog

The Dog Blog is a community of ordinary dog lovers who have come together to discuss our extraordinary dogs. Each Monday, a new topic is introduced. If you've got an opinion, share it. If not, look for the current "anything goes" topic and introduce a discussion of your own. On Fridays, weigh in about your training questions and successes.

Friday training talk: What's up with your gang?

Use this space to discuss training issues -- brag about successes, lament setbacks or bounce ideas off the group.

I've hit a plateau with Jillie's "no lick" training. She failed her therapy dog test a while back for "excessive licking," so I've been trying to get her to stop.

She's known what the term "no lick" means for a while now. When I give it, she stops. The only problem is, I have to give it every time. It gets a little old having to constantly be on her. Not sure where to go from here.

Eddie is a different dog when we play nose work games on our walks. He follows me everywhere instead of wanting to wander off and sniff on his own like he often does when we're not playing nose work. It's nice not having to repeatedly have to call him to get him to keep up.
