Lifelong Alaskan Sam "The Hebrew Hope" Dunham got his start in martial arts at the age of 5, taking karate lessons.

He rediscovered martial arts in college, enrolling in UAA's tae kwon do class, in which he now holds a black belt.

Eventually he sought to better round out his skill set and has been training MMA at Greatland Martial Arts since.

He has won matches at the Alaska Fighting Championship and also at Thursday Night at the Fights. He teaches kids at Tae Kwon Do USA, and makes his living as a substitute teacher for the Anchorage School District.

He can probably beat you up, but luckily he doesn't want to.

Biggest Card in State History in One Week!

AFC 83: Best of the Best 7, is set to go down on Wednesday, May 18th, at the Sullivan Arena. Barring any unforeseen schedule changes, it will be one of the biggest MMA event in Alaska history.

In addition the the UFC heavyweight champion of the world being on hand for pictures and autographs, the card tentatively includes such high profile fighters as Ricky 'Ice Cold' Shivers, Rob 'The Monster' Yundt, 'Naptime' Nic Herron-Webb, Terrence 'Terr-Bear' Mitchell, Tommy 'The Pot-Bellied Assassin' Ide, and Rod 'Short Notice' Pucak, as well as visiting fighter and former King of the Cage champion (not to mention the man who beat Brian Ryan in front of a hometown crowd), Tony 'Kryptonite' Lopez.

This will also be the final AFC event until September, as they will experiment with taking the summers off this year.

The card stuffed with ten fights scheduled (we'll see how many fall through, as happens frequently. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping all of the marquee matches remain).

Stay tuned for the Preview, where I'll break down the higher profile match-ups, and full coverage of the landmark event itself.
