Lifelong Alaskan Sam "The Hebrew Hope" Dunham got his start in martial arts at the age of 5, taking karate lessons.

He rediscovered martial arts in college, enrolling in UAA's tae kwon do class, in which he now holds a black belt.

Eventually he sought to better round out his skill set and has been training MMA at Greatland Martial Arts since.

He has won matches at the Alaska Fighting Championship and also at Thursday Night at the Fights. He teaches kids at Tae Kwon Do USA, and makes his living as a substitute teacher for the Anchorage School District.

He can probably beat you up, but luckily he doesn't want to.

Current UFC Champ to visit AK!

AFC promoter Sarah Johnston announced today that current UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will be on hand at AFC 81, set to go down on March 23rd. The announcement was made on 106.5 KWHL's popular Bob and Mark Show.

Cruz, who is being brought up by the Air Force Reserves, represents the first active champion to visit the state of Alaska. Although he has yet to fight in the UFC, Cruz was the last WEC bantamweight champion. He became the first ever UFC 135 lb champion after his last fight, a five round unanimous decision over Alaskan expatriate Scotty Jorgensen at the final WEC event in December.

AFC 81 will go down Wednesday, March 23rd, at the Sullivan Arena. Fights start at 7:30, with Cruz signing autographs and taking pictures before that.
