Okay, Senator Murkowski, pulling off this write-in victory shows you can do great things.
My guess is that a lot of those who wrote your name on the ballot were not Republicans but voted for you because they were concerned for the higher good of the State of Alaska and the Nation of the United States of America. The Independents, Progressives, Democrats and especially the Alaska Natives who wrote in your name with extraordinary accuracy (congratulations, Voters!) are wondering: Just how “Republican-y” are you going to be when you return to the U.S. Senate? Your party---the Republican-Tea-Or-Me Party Of “No“---apparently seeks to continue America’s economic death spiral simply to make absolutely certain there will be no success for the almost-White President they hate so much.
The gaping Mouth of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh, called it correctly from the get-go---he wanted to see the half-White President fail. Even if it meant taking down the entire Nation. Even if it meant taking down the entire World! The Republicans are seeking to strangle the driver while the bus is in motion. Will you be a part of this?
The following Republican “conservative” policies preceded and accompanied the great economic crash and mass unemployment: Globalization; outsourcing of jobs; elective wars benefiting only energy companies and war contractors; immense tax cuts for the rich; and deregulation of the so-called “free market.”
So, Ms. Murkowski, are you going to be one of those Republicans who wants to continue all of these budget-busting, war-mongering policies? Or, are you going to use your new, truly-rogue status to do something for the country and for the people instead of for the wealthy, campaign-contributin’ lobbyists? Remember, the people elected you while the Republican establishment was ready to chuck you under the wheels of the Joe Miller jack-wagon.
A “PLUNGER-READY” ECONOMY AND AN ENTIRE PLANET AT RISK -
From page A-6 of the 11-22-10 Anchorage Daily News:
“Plant may signal weapons push,” is about North Korea’s “mystery nuclear facility [that] didn’t exist a year ago.” The bigger problem associated with this is that a Republican move to kill the nuclear treaty with Russia is a Country-killing-World-Killing move. Punishing Obama by refusing to make the World a safer place is nuke-ya-ler madness. What are you going to do, Lisa? Stand up for Alaska---which is in the line of nuclear fire---or put us all at risk of nuclear devastation?
I am convinced that global climate change and nuclear-weapons madness are the two greatest threats facing Humanity. However, if we don’t admit who really caused this current (and getting worse) economic recession---and if we allow ourselves to be stampeded into yet more stupid economic acts---our economy will soon be “Plunger-Ready!” And, as the economy goes so goes what‘s left of the environment and, dare I say it, our dwindling wildlife.
Also, more economic disasters will create chaos and confusion among the World’s Nations---some already well-armed with nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them. While America is going nuts trying to “contain” a nation or two that doesn’t have nuclear weapons and/or a means to deliver them---we are ignoring the opportunity to control other Nations, including our own, bristling with nuclear weapons and missiles.
President Obama is trying to focus the administration's foreign policy efforts on gaining Senate ratification for a new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) with Russia in the current session of Congress. He is reviewing the strategy in Afghanistan (about time to pull the plug, Mr. President!). He is getting ready for a state visit here in America by Chinese President Hu Jintao in January where the subject of North Korea may well be just as important as trade and monetary policy. However, rather than allow Obama to have any “success”---even with a nuclear arms treaty the Republicans themselves support---the party of “No” is poised to torpedo any nuclear treaty as long as “Bush-Lite“ is in the White House.
The recent artillery attack by North Korea on South Korea took place because North Koreans have so little to lose---and they rightly sense that the United States has grown militarily, economically and politically weaker since the reign of George W. Bush. So, Senator Murkowski, there are other, more important matters to the Nation than sucking out the last drops of oil from Alaska!
THE ECONOMY TAKES PLACE ON PLANET EARTH -
Things are obviously not going well in the good ol’ U.S. of A. Some people---including business and working people of all faiths and parties---have expressed to me their surprise that our entire economy has not already crashed completely! We are that close…
I realize that some Alaskans just want to get rich at any cost. Myself, I prefer survival, however humble, not to take place on a melting Planet, in a post-Nuclear holocaust or economic desert where only the rich get to live in the oasis.
Another Anchorage Daily News article from 11-22-10 says, “Permafrost thawing rate accelerates.” Here’s another existential threat to the World with Alaska already in the process of melting down. Many Alaskans can’t seem to sense the weather, but you, Ms. Murkowski, are a bright lady---so I don’t have to convince you that global warming is real. However, you are beholden to the energy companies so you may not want to come right out and say that we Humans are contributing to the accelerated and unprecedented warming of the Planet.
Nevertheless, these “warming” stories just keep coming---although Public reaction appears orchestrated to deny everything. On 11-23-10 the Anchorage Daily News printed the following story: “Unusual November rain has Southcentral skidding.” And, “Rain from Anchorage to Barrow an ‘extraordinary event.’ FAIRBANKS: Second time in 100 years rainfall is on record for late November.”
Global warming is dripping right off the ends of our greedy noses and we still don‘t want to see it!
So, who are you going to represent, Ms. Murkowski---the climate deniers or the climate realists? It may be your job to make Alaskans rich but what are you ultimately going to do about our very source of life, the Planet itself? You know---"Nature!" Even if making us all wealthy is your only mission, at some point, no matter what happens, we will run out of resources. Sooner than most realize. What then? Will we have burned so much of fossil fuels there will be no turning down of the thermostat? Will we be behind the curve on on of the few real profit-making industries on the horizon---alternative energy?
ONCE RARE, NATIVE VOTES ARE NOW WELL-ORGANIZED -
Twenty-five years ago a State Senator came to my aid in a complaint I had made, as an employee, against the Alaska State Department of Health and Social Services. I spent a lot of time with him during one of his reelection campaigns and he showed me the voter rolls of his Mountain View district. He pointed out that there were very few Native names on the list so he had decided to not even bother making any pitch to Natives.
My, how things have changed! By word-of-mouth, radio and through Native organizations, Alaska‘s indigenous People got you elected, Senator Murkowski! Will you listen to their concerns?
Non-Republicans also helped get you elected. Are you going to listen to their concerns?
I did not vote for you, Senator, but you have impressed me with your write-in victory. So, what now?
