Anchorage's Jerry Ross Bags Sub-2:30 Marathon In Berlin

My bad for forgetting about checking into this last weekend -- somehow, I thought the Berlin Marathon was in October -- but in any event local standout Jerry Ross ran well in Germany.

Ross, a former Mayor's Marathon champ -- he won in 2007 and 2008 -- former UAA runner and former Dimond High runner, clocked 2 hours, 29 minutes, 14 seconds to finish 46th overall.

Ross finished fifth among Americans.

Earlier this summer, and we use the word "summer'' loosely, Ross broke the record at the 15.5-mile Lost Lake Run on mountain trails near Seward, clocking 1:36:50 to break the mark set by his close friend, the late Laird Prosser.

Some folks may also know Ross as the cat who has sold them shoes at Skinny Raven, or perhaps as the dude who ran a Tuesday Night Race Series event in a Speedo last year after losing a bet with fellow runner Matt Novakovich.

Also, last time I saw Jerry -- he sold me shoes and we shot the breeze for a bit -- he was rockin' a particularly sweet 70s mustache.

Anyhow, job well done.
