If you’ve yet to make it out to the Alaska State Fair in Palmer, this Labor Day weekend is your last chance. Hard rockers Shinedown take the Borealis stage tonight, while “America’s Got Talent” star Howie Mandel performs Saturday. Sunday’s concert features iconic country music balladeer Kenny Rogers, and 90s R&B sensations Boyz II Men bring the festivities to a close on Monday. Check the fair schedule here for times and ticket prices. For more information, visit alaskastatefair.org.
We may be looking at a fairly lazy holiday weekend in Anchorage. This week’s Play calendar is looking a little slimmer than usual. But if you're set to enjoy a labor-free Labor Day, you can spend it at the Delaney Park Strip. Local unions are sponsoring the Labor Day Rally, with games, music, face-painting, inflatable bouncing castles, food and beverage, noon-4 p.m. Monday.
There are a couple noteworthy concerts around town tonight, too.
Portland, Ore., modern rock up-and-comers Crown Point play 8 p.m. at the Tap Root. Tickets are $5.
Artsy hard rocking locals Double Aught play 10 p.m. at the Avenue with Shy Bones and Dave Armstrong. Double Aught also has a new CD called “The Walk,” which is available here, here, here and on iTunes.
Speaking of new CDs, The Audio recently released their debut EP “Six Impossible Things,” which just so happens to be the subject of this week’s cover story in Play. Read the it over here, where you can also stream the disc’s first track, “X Marks the Spot.”
Now that you've worked for the weekend, what are your plans?
