I was born in Sitka, have lived in Kake, Skagway and Fairbanks and joined the ADN in 2005 after writing for the Anchorage Press and Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. I started blogging for the paper in 2006 with The Trail, our blog about the governor's race. Then came the Alaska Politics blog. Unalaska's undercover drug bust: Read the charges

That wasn't the feds conducting a months-long undercover sting on the Unalaska drug trade. It was the local police department using a young Alaska man who wants to join the force posing as "Nathan Hyde" to buy cocaine, Oxy & other drugs.
Unalaska city officials say undercover investigations often fail in small towns -- too many familiar faces and paranoid drug dealers. But this bust, first reported by Alaska Newspapers, is likely the biggest in years, says police chief Jamie Sunderland.
“More charges are pending on this case," he said.
Here are the charges against Matthew J. Schneider, a 22-year-old who police describe as a production manager for "The Deadliest Catch."
