Four-part harmony competition this weekend

Anchorage hosts the regional women's barbershop singing competition this weekend, with the city's Alaska Sound Celebration harmoniously going up againts choruses from Fairbanks and Washington State. The winner moves on to the World Championships in Houston, Texas, next year.

It's a terrific opportunity to hear some of the most dedicated and polished four-part groups around, all at Atwood Concert Hall. The Quartet competition starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, with 20 foursomes emceed by local radio man Steve Stripling. (Henceforth to be known as Lucky Steve.)

Eight big choirs sound off at 1:30 on Saturday and all winners will take part in the grand Fesitval of Champions concert at 7:30 that night. Tickets are available at
centertix.
