A difference of opinion: Mark Robokoff as Coach Don and Aaron Wiseman as his assistant in "Rounding Third" at Out North.
The local diamonds are still full of snow, but "Rounding Third," a play opening Friday night at Out North gets a head start on baseball season.
The two-hander stars Mark Robokoff as a "winning-is-everything" Little League coach, assisted by Aaron Wiseman, who has the opinion that the game should be for fun. They butt heads, expose demons and learn a few things over the course of a whole season compressed into two hours.
There's adult language and situations, as they say; nothing more salty than "The Simpsons." The play should be as amusing and maybe instructive for kids as it is for grown-ups. Out North recommends it for children 12 and up. I'd say it's appropriate for savvy youngsters younger than that. And the price is less than a movie. (Cheaper soda, too.)
"Rounding Third" will be presented at 7:30pm Thursday-Saturday and 4pm Sunday - but no show on Easter. Out North is located at 3800 Debarr Road. Tickets are $20, $5 for youth under 18. Get yours at www.outnorth.org or 279-8099.
Unless the weather suddenly warms to 60, the fields dry out and green up, and baseball starts early this year, this'll do.
