ALASKA'S OWN MARCH MADNESS

I don't want to just rant about the news, but today's particular constellation of headlines from the ADN's web site warranted at least a mention. Here they are:

“Anchorage man kills neighbor's Chihuahua with shotgun”

“State worker charged with funds theft”

“Collared wolves killed during aerial predator control”

“Fairbanks gun-rights advocate arrested on weapons charge”

“Governor calls for cut in tax criticized by cruise companies”

What kind of society are we creating for ourselves up here? We shoot dogs, steal from the poor, kill wolves studied by scientists, lie to the cops about our hoard of hidden guns, and lower taxes on Panamanian companies who dump crap in our water.

Reminds me of that bumper sticker: Between civilized humans and apes lies modern man. Or Alaskans at the end of winter.

Maybe we need to take up some more sports.
