Mom and son jailed in major Mat-Su drug bust

Mat-Su narcotics investigators say they've broken up a mom-and-son commercial marijuana growing operation after finding garbage sacks full of weed inside a Wasilla home.

Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement investigators arrested Wasilla resident Jane C. Cain, 51, and her son, Palmer resident Katsuhige C. Lewis, 29, on drug charges after discovering 20 pounds of freshly cut marijuana stuffed into garbage bags.

Investigators who arrived about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday to search the home off Church Road in Wasilla found Cain and Lewis inside trying to dismantle the grow, troopers said.

A search of the home turned up several garbage bags filled with recently harvested marijuana, which investigators seized and weighed it in at 20 pounds. Troopers also found a scale and drug packaging materials, they said.

Both Cain and Lewis were charged with fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance; Cain with three counts and Lewis with two.

They were booked into the Mat-Su Pretrial facility with bail set at $30,000 cash.
