Dog Blog

The Dog Blog is a community of ordinary dog lovers who have come together to discuss our extraordinary dogs. Each Monday, a new topic is introduced. If you've got an opinion, share it. If not, look for the current "anything goes" topic and introduce a discussion of your own. On Fridays, weigh in about your training questions and successes.

Friday training talk: What's new with your pack

Use this space to discuss training issues, whether to brag about successes or to seek advice from some of the visitors to the blog.

My apologies for the late post! Got busy in the morning and still haven't caught up.

I've been working on Jillie's wait and stay. She loves fetching the ball, and was initially rabid to get it, but now she waits until I release her.

She and Eddie also have the dual and independent spins down. I tell Eddie to spin, and she'll hold her place. Then I tell her to spin, and Eddie holds his place. Then I give them a "both spin" and they spin in tandem. Kind of a fun stupid pet trick.

Other than that, Eddie's rehab is going well. He's had three sessions in the treadmill tank at Veterinary Specialists. He doesn't love it, but he was walking at a brisk 1.7 mph for most of a 15-minute session Thursday.

It's funny, the healthier Eddie gets, the more both he and Jillie want to play. They're wanting to roughhouse, but I have to continue to put the kabbosh on it. But it's interesting to see that he's not warning her off as he used to when he was hurting more.
