Treecycle
Recycling bells are ringing again this season with Christmas tree recycling at your local CARRS stores starting on December 28th through January 15th. Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling (ALPAR) along with Muni Solid Waste Services, CARRS, The Anchorage Daily News, Anchorage Media Group radio stations and GCI all sponsor this popular program that provides free drop off of live trees. Trees become wonderful smelling woodchips and are donated to parks and nonprofits for use on trails and gardens.
Please follow the recycling rules: no wreathes or plastic bags should be left at the drop offs and please take lights, ornaments and stands off your trees!
There are lots of opportunities to recycle your holiday debris including cardboard, boxboard, holiday wrap (unless it's foiled) and don't forget all those catalogs! Drop off at the the Anchorage Recycling Center located at 6161 Rosewood off Dowling between Old and New Seward or the Hiland Dr. Landfill Recycling site.
If you are an Alaska Waste customer, why not make a New Year's resolution to check out their residential curbside recycling program for single family homes. It's the most convenient way to recycle! (563-3717 or on the web at www.alaskawaste.net )
Call ALPAR for more information (644-7968) and Happy Holidays to Alaskan recyclers!
